Tatsujin Drums Its Way Back

Bring The Beat Back

Bandai Namco has been hard at work bringing players games they crave. From Jump Force to the new Soul Calibur, this summer has been quite busy for them. There’s one title, however,  that snuck under the radar after a very casual announcement via social media: Taiko no Tatsujin.

Many in America know this game only by, “that taiko game”. Well, “that taiko game” is a pretty big stable in Japanese arcades, where players even go so far as to bring their own drum sticks and perform elaborate displays of their drumming skills. Crowds gather to watch players pound out high scores to their favorite beats. Tatsujin is something special that I’ve missed since returning to the states from Japan.

No more though. Bandai Namco announced last week that not one, but TWO Tastujin titles will make their way over; Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum ‘n’ Fun  for the Nintendo Switch, which makes perfect sense thanks to the Joy Con, and Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum Session! for the PlayStation 4.

The New Groove

Drum Session! will require the extra drum peripheral, but this will be bundled in with the game. This is the first Tatsujin game on the PlayStation 4 and was first released to Japanese gamers last year. It includes an extensive track list with classics such as Cruel Angel’s Thesis and Tonari no Totoro, along with new and original songs. This version will be for players who are more competitive and will feature a ranked mode, allowing players to show off their skills on a worldwide stage.

Bandai Namco released their track list for Drum ‘n’ Fun earlier today, which boasts a remarkably similar playlist to its PS4 cousin. Players won’t need to buy bulky drums for this version, so this may be a more accessible casual game for those wanting to get their feet wet into the franchise. Players will also be able to compete against their friends in over 20 mini games featuring platform exclusive characters such as Kirby and Mario.

Get ready to drum your heart out when these titles drop on November 2nd!
