Nerd On! Updates and Heading to E3!

Updates and E3!

If you haven’t noticed, our content has recently expanded into more than just a podcast! We’re figuring out all the details, but we’re going to add (and have already added!) a lot of new methods for getting our nerd on. Going to E3 is a small part of the upcoming bigger picture, and we’re excited to share everything with you!

On our YouTube channel, you’ll see weekly updates of Gamebyte coming from our very own Ali, fabulous he, Ali Showkati. Monday through Saturday we’re doing live streams on Twitch, including 5 days of individual streams with your favorite hosts, and a group game night. There are also articles starting to crop up here on the site, and while we’ve mainly been showcasing opinion editorials, we fully intend to start doing reviews, cover gaming news, and more videos.

This isn’t going to happen overnight, but we can’t thank our patrons and donors enough for helping us grow in these new and extraordinary ways. We couldn’t do this without you and will work hard to keep delivering the same level of quality for all of our content down the road. In the meantime, let’s take stock of some of the titles we’ll get to see at E3 next month.

What to see at E3:

Super Smash Bros

It’s time. The last few months have had gamers straining their eyes since the initial March 8th Super Smash Bros trailer dropped. In a few short weeks, we’ll have the details for the highly anticipated Nintendo game that will rend and mend friendships. The next chapter in this crossover fighting game series is going to feature inklings from Splatoon, but they’ve kept mum on much information otherwise.

The Last of Us II

The story of Ellie and Joel is going to pick up 5 years after it left off. While the teasers and trailer we’ve seen thus far leave us with more questions than answers, it’s obvious this game is going to be about hate rather than love. Hopefully, we’ll find out whether the woman shown in the teaser trailer is Ellie’s mother or not, but that remains to be seen.

Death Stranding

What will we see? Who could say! We mentioned in our most recent Gamebyte episode that we’ll likely see another trippy trailer, but some gameplay or…any idea of what’s going on would be nice. Norman Reedus has commented that this game is “ahead of it’s time” and is about connections, but that doesn’t give us much to go on.

Ghost of Tsushima

Sucker Punch, of the Infamous and Sly Cooper series fame, have been quietly sitting on top of their newest game, Ghost of Tsushima for the last 3 years. The initial trailer dropped in October, and it looks like they’ve got something truly special on their hands. Not only does this game let you play into the fantasy of being a samurai, but it will also let you experience feudal Japan in breathtaking realness thanks to the engine on which it was built (or so the in-engine trailer would have us believe).

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4

What’s on the docket for Black Ops 4? From the rumor mill, it’ll be multiplayer only, Zombies modes and Battle Royale will be available. What’s confirmed? Aside from a distorted gif, there’s not a lot to go off of. There’s a community reveal event today at 10am PST, so hopefully we’ll get a better idea of what we’re in for. There have been rumors circulating that it will also be available on Switch, but that remains to be seen.

Watch the reveal stream here.

Battlefield 2018

As of yesterday, the official Battlefield Twitter posted a “V” as it’s logo, confirming the new title as Battlefield V. The full reveal will come on May 23rd 1pm PST/4pm EST/10pm CET. It is set to feature a single-player mode, which contrasts Black Ops, who is rumored to be be dropping theirs. There should* also be multiplayer, a dedicated co-op mode, and a Battle Royale, but for now we wait. The video below will go live on the 23rd!

Fortnite

Since Fortnite has all but swept the Internet, it only makes sense that it would make a grand reveal at E3. What for you ask? Forbes seems to think it’s going to take the leap to Switch.

Spiderman

The new PS4 game from Insomniac is looking very promising, and as of this morning, Mr. Negative has been announced as the villain. Everyone wants to sling webs and fight baddies as your friendly neighborhood Spiderman! With any luck we’ll get some hands-on experience in a couple weeks.

Rage 2

The first gameplay trailer for this post-apocalyptic shooterverse shows lots of boom, blood, and badassery. It’s far brighter and eye-catching than its predecessor, and hopefully has a more compelling storyline to boot. This game is open world, and will be jam-packed with mischief to get into.

Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass

What can we expect from this game? Shooting. Lots of shooting. While we don’t know much yet, the Steam page says you’ll get to experience “signature Serious Sam gameplay on a brutally bigger scale, and not a single desert level”. They could either be cheeky and mean to say that there will be two levels, or an expansive world to blow stuff up in.

Adventure Time: Pirates of the Enchiridion

The Land of Ooo is underwater, and Finn and Jake will be questing in this story-driven action RPG. The games for Adventure time have been fun, but more top-down or side-scroller than anything else (and leaving much to be desired). It seems to be a bit more on-brand with humor, but cautious skepticism remains.

There are also plenty of unconfirmed titles that we fully expect to see present. Among that list is Borderlands 3, Cyberpunk 2077, a Final Fantasy VII Remake, Kingdom Hearts 3, Kirby, Life is Strange 2, Metroid Prime 4, Shenmue 3, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Fable 4, Halo 6, WWE 2k19, a new Pokemon game, a NEW YOSHI GAME PLEASE, and much more. Obviously, there will be many indie titles and surprises from big companies, but it’s hard to say how this year will stack up to E3’s of years past.

What titles are you excited about? Let us know in the comments below!
