Jamie Foxx has been cast in the title role of the upcoming Spawn film, produced by Blumhouse and written and directed by the character’s creator and Image comic co-founder, Todd McFarlane. Originally debuting on the big screen in 1997 and starring Michael Jai White, the Spawn character is a mercenary-turned-hellspawned-soldier, who returns to earth to protect his family.

The remake is pitched as less a superhero film and more a “supernatural thriller”, however the presumably R-rated film does not have an estimated release date yet. T

he move is an interesting one, since last year in an interview with AZCentral.com McFarlane stated that “Spawn doesn’t say a word the entire movie, and it’s the same way with Jaws,” he said, instead “It’s about the sheriff and the people, chasing the ghost.” Why cast an well-known actor with such great chops for a character that won’t say a word? Who knows, but it’s refreshing to see the comic book’s creator so heavily involved in the project.
